Exercise: Exercise is an activity that helps to work our muscles, increasing the amount of the oxygen delivery to them and in general improve cardio vascular health.
Aerobic Exercise: Aerobic means with air or oxygen. It is performed at a moderate level of intensity over a long period of time for eg : running long distant at moderate pace is an aerobic exercise, bicycling, dancing, swimming, walking.
Anaerobic exercise: Anaerobic means without air or without oxygen. Anaerobic exercise is performed in sets, which requires intense bursts of energy. Eg: weight lighting, sprinting.
Major reasons to strengthen core muscle:
— Core exercises helps to improve your balance and stability.
— These exercises help to train the muscles in pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen and they work in harmony.
— Core exercise help to tone your abs.
— Improve flexibility : core muscles takes weight bearing pressure off the lower back, removing stress and strain. So these muscles and ligaments are freed-up to go through their entire ROM (Range of motion), providing improved natural mobility and flexibility.
— Improve respiration and lung capacity : The transverse abdominal muscle is connected to diaphragm, when the core muscles are well trained, the ability to breathe in and out fully is greatly improved.
— Reduced low back pain : Strong core muscles minimize damage to lower back by providing more efficient weight bearing mechanism.
— Improve physical strength : The transverse abdominal muscle it acts like a belt, wrapping around the spine for protection and stability, once these muscles are trained properly you need not carry the weight belt for lifting heavy weights.
— Improved performance in sports : Any sport that requires both aerobic performance and flexibility is improved with core training. Core exercises enhance your respiratory capacity and your balance, co-ordination and flexibility, the result is upgraded athletic performance. You will have more stamina and sport-specific skills improve.
Why lift weights?
Women are often not encouraged to lift weights, or at least to lift heavy. But you are missing out on many benefits if you don’t train with weights:
1. Developing muscle is a very effective way to drop body fat as muscle burns many more calories than fat.
2. As we get older, we lose muscle and our body fat percentage thereby increases; weight training will help to reverse this process.
3. Strengthening your muscles and joints will help prevent injury and back pain, both now and later in life.
4. Weight training improves bone density, militating against osteoporosis and weak bones which women are particularly prone to.
5. Being stronger is useful in everyday life and brings increased confidence in your own physical abilities.
